Day 26-29: Quarantined in Erwin

April 21, 20262 min read

Welp. It looks like I pick up a Norovirus on the trail. Norovirus, otherwise know and the stomach bug, is common on the trail and can spread rapidly. So I'm glad I got off quickly and I isolated myself in motel room for 4 days as the virus worked its way through my system.

Thank goodness for doordash as I ordered medicines, cleaning supplies, dehydration and food to my room. My hope is that I dont get anyone else sick. The first night I spent in the bathroom throwing up and flushing the worst of it from my gut.

The next day I spent mostly in bed, but peopto can only do so much. At least I was keeping food and liquids down.

Day 2 I was able to get the chores of laundry and cleaning my gear to get most of the virus out using hot soap and water along with clorox wipes. I washed my pack out in the tub, turning the water a dark grey, but hopefully that helps. Mind you this is all in between trips to the toliet and the bed to rest.

That night I actually got a full night's sleep and was feeling better on day three. I got yhe rest of my gear wiped down and packed up as I continued to rest and rehydrated. I am very thankful for banannas, yogurt, and gatorade. Its seems that I am over the worst of it on an upswing.

I decided to take a 4th day to recover as I woke up with a sinus headache. I was able to coordinate a 7am slack pack from Spivey Gap back into Erwin and do a final groccery trip that got me out of the hotel and walking around Erwin.

I am looking forward to being out of this hotel room and back on the trail tomorrow.
